Discovering Egypt: Things To Be Aware Of
Many people say that Egypt is a unique travel destination, which cannot be compared with other places in the world. Of course, this is one of the best reasons to select this country for your next holidays. Our advice is to look for organized trips or to ask a travel agency in your country to organize your individual trip. There are many travel agencies that will help you to have cheap and very well organized trip to Egypt and its must see. However, if you go out from the standard routine, you have to be prepared for your trip.
What you have to be aware when you travel alone:
- If you need a taxi, the best is to ask the reception desk at your hotel for the favor to get you one. The hotels work with known companies and single drivers, which is the best. If you need a taxi for a long trip or for a whole day, better inform in advance yourself about the price and negotiate with the driver.
- If you go to do sightseeing alone, be aware of where you go and what is the entrance fee for this point. Ask what you receive for the ticket you have paid and search the different options.
- If you would like to dine out, inform yourself about restaurants in the neighborhood, which are recommended. You may ask the reception desk at your hotel for places with clean environment and healthy food. The stars of the place are not as important for the price: even at 5 stars restaurant the price will be much lower than in your country. Therefore select the best, not the cheapest.
- Respect the norms of the Muslim culture. Take in mind that the western tourists may accidentally be against the social norms. Fondling your partner or kissing him / her on public are not acceptable. The same is valid for revealing clothing. The rule here is: be conservative in your behavior as much as possible. Note: in Egypt and other Muslim countries homosexuality is illegal!
- Last, but not least: if this is your first travel to Egypt, better join an organized group. Do not rely on different guides and travel books like “Lonely Planet” to help you in unknown country. Actually you have to be prepared for a cultural chock. Egypt is not the best destination for newbies.
